Sam Soh

✰ Documentary & Direction ✰

I’m Sam Soh (she/her) – a moving image artist and freelance filmmaker. My practice draws from the traditions and methods of documentary, dance, spatial design, street casting and cultural theory. At the confluence of moving body and moving image, I explore ideas around space, home, community, heritage, displacement and migration. I am drawn to unique people, places and passions, and have an endless curiosity for approaching general public and discovering the different communities we form and the spaces we both inhabit and leave behind.

My films have been recognised at festivals in the USA, France and the United Arab Emirates and I have worked for clients in Canada, Japan, USA and Australia. Select clients include Dark Mofo, Canon, Air Canada, Sapporo and Bett Gallery. I currently sit on the board of the experimental arts publication Runway Journal as a Digital Producer. I hold a Bachelor of Arts (Journalism) / Bachelor of Visual Arts from Monash University (2018), and I studied Documentary Filmmaking and Video Storytelling at the Danish School of Media and Journalism in Århus, Denmark (2017).

I am available for commissions, collaborations and freelance video work – feel free to reach out anytime via email. You can also find me on Instagram, Vimeo, Are.na, IMDb and Read.cv.
